Mandarin Oriental Masterplan

This commission was for a luxury hotel in an unconventional site, with 120m of oceanfront and 2,000m depth. Using the same principles as in Mayakobá, we created internal waterways and located the buildings behind the oceanfront mangrove, which remained untouched. The luxury hotel chain’s brief was clear in its initial proposition:

“… in any site chosen to establish a Mandarin Oriental hotel, we aim to achieve a subtle combination of our oriental character, with the cultural excellency of the site in all its expressions…”

The two architecture studios developed the project, considering every detail in the hoteliers’ operations program. The landscape design played an important role, as the guests are never aware that the site is quite narrow for a hotel development.

Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya exemplifies a robust position regarding sustainability and the aesthetic value of every plant, tree, each patio and each space.
