Reforma–La Diana Urban Design

In their original location, the fountain and its sculpture, designed by Vicente Mendiola and Juan Fernando Olaguíbel, became an urban reference point. In 1997, with the construction of the “ejes viales” (network of main roads), the fountain was removed and confined to a nearby park. Apparently, nobody cared about this relocation. However, there was great public approval and joy when the city authorities returned it to a prominent location in Paseo de la Reforma.

The “La Diana” fountain is again an urban reference point in Mexico City’s main avenue.

Our intervention consisted on recovering the fountain and the sculpture. With a foundation structure and a pumping equipment taken from another fountain, we created a raised base that protects the fountain from intense surrounding traffic. We also redesigned the fountain’s water jets sequences. The ensemble still has the Bosque de Chapultepec as a backdrop, and is now protected from the surrounding roads, while offering new visual perspectives.
